Yet ANOTHER Enlightened Red-Stater - and a Born-Again Christian No Less!
Something tells me that Mel's church won't be getting any faith-based initiative money, but I for one appreciate his words!Christians not all same
All born-again Christians do not endorse the misguided Bush administration. Not all buy into the Iraq invasion that has claimed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens' lives, tens of thousands of casualties and more than 1,600 U.S. lives. Nor do all agree with the notion of absolute control of all government branches by one party.
We know that America functions better when there are checks and balances and vigorous debate on issues. Many of us believe that there are self-centered visions, which lack concern for humanity and emphasize control and profit.
This is one of the most abusive administrations of our lifetime. We do not agree with being lied to about the cause for war or burdening our children and grandchildren with a massive national debt. We believe that Social Security needs review and updating, but not privatization -- where corporations will see a windfall and taxpayers pay the bill.
All of us Christians are not right-wingers. Some of us realize that, just as there were zealots in Christ's days, they exist today. As there are radical elements in the Islamic and Jewish faiths, so is it with the Christian faith. Some of us detest hypocrisy and are repulsed by those who claim to have a lock on values and virtues.
