Public Officials and Their Faith

The battle over Supreme Court nominee John Roberts is not the first time America has grappled with the question of how public officials should balance their personal beliefs with their public responsibilities. Speaking at separate Pew Forum events, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, both Catholics, shared their philosophies about the way faith informs their public service.

The Pew Forum's nomination resource page links to transcripts of these events, as well as poll reports, news clips, opinion pieces and interest group statements.
